Minister of State for Public Health confers CBE to Director of NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies
Professor Tom Walley has had a CBE conferred at the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC). He was awarded a CBE by the Queen in June for his services to medicine. Professor Walley has been Director of the NIHR HTA programme since January 2004, and his role has recently expanded to Director of NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies.
The CBE was conferred to Professor Walley by the Rt Hon Dawn Primarolo MP, Minister of State for Public Health, during a ministerial visit to officially open the NETSCC and announce the launch of the NIHR Health Services Research programme.
"This is a tremendous honour and I am delighted to be able to accept my CBE at the newly opened NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Co-ordinating Centre. I see this also as an award to the programmes supported here and its staff whose support I have been fortunate to receive." says Professor Walley.
NETSCC has been created to provide a single research management centre to meet the needs of the research programmes it coordinates, and to ensure scientific quality in all aspects of the research management process. NIHR funded research programmes managed by NETSCC include the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme, the Public Health Research (PHR) programme, the Service Delivery and Organisation (SDO) programme (from April 2009), and the newly created Health Services Research (HSR) programme. NETSCC also coordinates the Efficacy Mechanism and Evaluation (EME) programme which was created as part of the new NIHR and Medical Research Council coordinated strategy for clinical trials.
