Editorial review arrangements for projects funded by the SDO programme due to submit their report before 1 July 2012

We will continue to undertake editorial review of final reports for projects originally funded by the SDO programme who are due to submit their final report before 1 July 2012.  Once they have undergone our editorial review process and been accepted for publication, these SDO programme final reports will publish as web publications.

Approximately six months before your draft final report is due to be submitted you will be sent/will have been sent an author's information pack containing a set of style guidelines and reporting templates for final reports. You will be asked to confirm that you are currently on track to submit your report on time. 

Approximately three months before your draft final report is due to be submitted we will contact you to confirm arrangements for its submission, ensure you have the template documentation you require. You will be asked again to confirm that you are currently on track to submit your report on time. It is important that you notify us if you are not on track because at the three months to go point we will appoint the Lead Reviewer and up to four external reviewers for your report and we will provide them with the timeframe for receiving and reviewing the report.

To ensure quality standards, the draft final report will undergo rigorous editorial review before it is accepted for publication; this process typically takes between 7 to 9 months. Once the report has been accepted for editorial review it will be sent for refereeing. We normally send the report to up to four referees. In the months prior to report submission we will also ask you to suggest referees for the report and where possible a referee proposed by the authors is included amongst our selection. 

Reports provided by the referees are forwarded to the Lead Reviewer who will also provide a report. Feedback is given anonymously to the author when the referees' and Lead Reviewer's comments have been returned. The author is then invited to submit their revised report within six weeks.  Following review of the revised report further iterations may be required
