Working for the University of Southampton

The rewards

Life with the University of Southampton is unique. With great sports facilities, a theatre, concert hall and gallery all on the Highfield campus, there is always something to do.

We recognise that our people are our biggest asset, so we offer plenty of generous benefits, including:

Pension scheme

The University offers final salary pension schemes which vary according to grade; PASNAS and USS are the main schemes. The schemes are available to all staff and provide excellent benefits on retirement. They are tailored to meet the needs of the university sector, including provision for career breaks. You and the University both make percentage contributions, though rates vary from time to time and between schemes.

Healthcare and discounts

We offer a private health care scheme through AXA PPP, which offers an optional discounted health care scheme for employees, with reduced rates for individual or family membership as compared to a private individual applying for the scheme. You’ll also receive membership of the Staff Club of the University, which means discounts on a wide range of goods and services at discounts varying from 5% to 50%. This includes restaurants, legal services, travel, local shops, entertainment, health and fitness facilities, hair and beauty services and many more.

Holidays and leave

A generous holiday allowance is augmented with six University days and eight Bank Holidays. We also have a wealth of family-friendly leave policies, including generous maternity, paternity and adoption leave.

Childcare

We offer a nursery, which has been completely refurbished, on the Highfield campus, to accommodate children of staff and students from the age of four months to five years with up to 108 children per session. Places need to be booked by application to the day nursery manager. There are also holiday play schemes for children between four and twelve years.

We think the University of Southampton is a great place to work. In a region that is developing by the day, you will benefit from all that the University has to offer and more...
