NETSCC has been commissioned to develop NIHR-wide guidelines on reducing carbon expenditure in health research. This builds on the success of a project to calculate the carbon expenditure of a sample of HTA clinical trials.

Capacity for conducting clinical trials within the NHS is being developed through an initiative to provide priming funds to units who intend to conduct NIHR trials, as part of the NIHR and MRC joint health research strategy.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) recognises that trial managers play a central role in the successful conduct of clinical trials and October 2011 saw the re-launch of the NIHR Trial Managers' Network (NIHR TMN). Hosted by Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU) University of Leeds, the TMN contract is managed by NETSCC on behalf of the NIHR.

NETSCC is working on behalf of MRC and NIHR to manage the MRC portfolio of late phase clinical studies. Some of these studies are within the remit of the EME programme and others relate to the remit of the HTA programme.
