For the past six years, the Department of Health in England has funded an annual scheme whereby small incentive payments (in almost all cases of £5,000) were offered to Cochrane Review Groups (CRGs) for preparing key new or updated Cochrane reviews by agreed dates. Over the six years, 113 awards have been made.

The Department recognises that these awards are insufficient to meet the full costs of conducting reviews. They are intended to be applied at the discretion of Co-ordinating Editors in ways that will facilitate and possibly accelerate activity that is already planned or underway.

We expect to make up to 20 further awards of £5,000 during 2010 (though, in very exceptional cases, a higher incentive payment may be agreed).

Deadline and application process
The specification document  and application form is available here.

Nominations must be received in electronic form by Mike Clarke at the UK Cochrane Centre by 5pm Friday 17 September 2010 mclarke@cochrane.co.uk. Late proposals and proposals that fail to adhere to the proforma or word limit will not be considered.

Any enquiries relating to this scheme should be referred either to Mike Clarke, Director of the UK Cochrane Centre mclarke@cochrane.co.uk, or to Sally Bailey S.E.Bailey@southampton.ac.uk. Please state ‘Cochrane Incentive Scheme’ in the subject/title field.
